Agricultural Center - Extenstion Office

The Levy County Extension provides information and education services to all Levy County citizens. Subject matter areas include: Agriculture and Homeowner Production, Aquaculture, Family and Consumer Sciences, Family Nutrition, and 4-H Youth Development.

Agriculture Extension Agent
The Levy County Extension Service offers information and services vital to the commercial agriculture producer as well as to the hobby farmer and homeowner relating to the culture of all plants and domesticated farm animals. More specifically, information and services including but not limited to such topics as Integrated Pest Management (insect, weed, and disease ID and control methods), variety section, fertility management (including soil testing through the University of Florida, fee required), cultural practices, economic analysis, pesticide licensing, and marketing. Information exchange methods include formal education short courses, Bulletins and Circulars, personal consultant via office visit, letter and phone, and field visits (for commercial producers).

Family & Consumer Science Agent
The mission of this Extension program in Levy County is to provide educational opportunities related to consumer education, family relationships, food and nutrition, health and safety, home environment, and leadership development enabling individuals and families to improve the quality of their lives. Programs are provided for adults and youth. The following titles are a sample of the programs available: “Before You Tie The Knot” (marriage preparation); “Nurturing Children”; “Stretch Your Dollars”; “Preserving Florida Foods”; “ServeSafe” (food handler certification); “Home Buyers Education Program”; “Building Green and Save”; “Cholesterol Control”; and day camps on various topics during the summer for youth. 4-H Agent/4-H Program Assistant
This program provides liberal education development opportunities for all county youth ages 5-18. The primary goal is to develop life skills in all Program Participants. 4-H uses a variety of delivery modes including:

  • Youth Council
  • After School/Out of School Programs
  • Residential Camps and Weekend Retreats
  • Special Interest/Short Term Programs and Judging Teams
  • School Enrichment
