Levy County Public Transportation is a new department under the Levy County Board of County Commissioners. The department has adopted the name of Nature Coast Transit Co. to identify with the flavor of our rural environment. The program is being developed through the Withlacoochee Regional Planning Council, the Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged. Currently the Community Transportation Coordinator is ATC Intelitrans, Gainesville, FL. As of October 1, 2003, Levy County will assume full responsibility to coordinate its own transportation program. Nature Coast Transit Co. expects to operate the TD program in Levy County as well as provide limited bus services available to the general public on a fee basis. The goal of the department is, "to provide needed transportation to our citizens, safely."
