Building Department


The Building Department is tasked with the enforcement of the building codes, construction industry licensing laws, national flood insurance program requirements and other regulations as mandated by the Federal and State governments, as well as County ordinances as adopted for un-incorporated Levy County. The Building Permits section is comprised of Customer Services and Plans Examination. Customer Service Representatives (Permit Specialists and Permit Technicians) are responsible for receiving and accepting permit applications, issuing permits, checking contractors for required licenses and permit history. The Plans Examiners are responsible for reviewing plans and related documents to ensure that they meet the requirements of the building codes, regulations, and ordinances in effect.

The Zoning Director is responsible for administering the Levy County Zoning Ordinance and related land use regulations, such as the Flood Ordinance.  The Zoning staff responds to the general public, land development professionals and realtors inquiring about permitted land uses and development standards.  The Zoning Department enforces the ordinance through the review of building permits, site plans, and subdivision proposals.  Also, the Director manages the processing of all applications for re-zoning, variances, special exceptions, vested rights and appeals in accordance with State and Local Laws.  Consistency with the Levy County Comprehensive Plan is maintained by updating the Zoning Ordinance and related regulations on a periodic basis.

General areas of interest within the Code of Ordinances, Chapter 50 are Article XIII Zoning, Division 3 District Regulations, Subdivision I, Section 676, Schedule 1.  Use Regulations (zoning categories and permitted uses) and Schedule 2.  Lot, Yard and Height Regulations (setbacks, etc.).  These and other code references can be found within the quick link below.

The districts are bounded as shown on the map entitled "2020 Preferred Conceptual Future Land Use Map" which, with all explanatory matters thereon, and any other adopted future land use map series is hereby made a part of this article. In addition, the overlay district for the Williston municipal service district is adopted; this map shows the area covered by a 5,000-foot radius centered on the end of each runway at the Williston Airport as an accident potential area.
